Ty’s Tips for Redecorating a Room

Ask Yourself
What is the purpose of the room? An office? Guest room? You’ll need to know that in order for everything else (curtains, flooring, accessories and paint color) to fall into place.

Speaking of Color…Use It!
It’s a mood lifter. And it’s one of the most inexpensive ways to redo a room. I like orange and turquoise and lately I’ve been on a mint-green kick. But that doesn’t mean I have an entire room painted bright orange. Better to go with a soothing neutral on the walls like khaki or gray and paint accents or trim in one of those bright colors for the “pop” factor.

Everything In Its Place
Before you start your room redo, make sure you know where everything will go. Otherwise, the nice new space will soon be lost

Ty’s 5 Toolbox Essentials

Tape Measure
“Ya gotta have this,” Ty says. Measure twice and cut once!

5-in-1
Or “painter’s tool” is a screwdriver, putty knife, utility knife, roller cleaner and paint scraper, all in one.

Torpedo Level
Typically nine inches long, it’s small enough to use in spaces too cramped for a longer level.

Drill Gun
Get one that’s rechargeable with at least 18 volts.

Speed Square
Used to draw perpendicular lines and marked with degree gradations so that you can make your cuts quickly and correctly.
