Lasting Strength

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.—EPHESIANS 6:10 NIV

Where do we draw our strength? Do we think it comes from a good workout? Do we believe we’ll be strong if we get enough sleep at night? Or eat a hearty breakfast? Those are all healthful energy boosters, but they do not provide the real strength that caregiving requires.

Sometimes we need physical strength. Other times it’s the strength that allows us to hold up under sorrow, as we watch a once-independent loved one now struggle to do the smallest task. Or perhaps we need strength to battle feelings of frustration and impatience we find ourselves experiencing.

Whatever the reason for our need, the source of strength is always the same: God. His strength isn’t temporary; it won’t wear out over time. There’s no waiting for Him to order in a fresh supply or worrying that He won’t have enough. His strength is there continually, an outgrowth of His mighty power.

Stop reaching for the energy that fades, asking instead for the strength our God supplies.

Heavenly Father, from Your power You provide me with the strength I need each day. Help me to remember to call upon You.
