And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my power is made perfect in weakness.—2 CORINTHIANS 12:9 (ASV)

My aunt stared at the broken bay window in defeat. My grandmother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s, in an
agitated state, had taken a brass candelabra and broken the entire display—frame and all. At midnight, with absolutely no strength to clean the massive mess, she did the only thing she could do. She called my dad. Sure, he was able to swoop in and do the heavy lifting, but the emotional load my aunt had taken on was far heavier than even her big brother could hold. “I can’t do this,” she thought. “I can’t fix this.”

When talking about that moment, I asked my aunt how she kept going. “There was this voice that said, ‘You can’t fix this, but I can.’ And I took a deep breath and kept going.” My aunt found power in God’s promise.

God’s power thrives in our weakness. To know that the Almighty, who created everything, is so loving that he is with us during our hardest of times, brings peace. He is there when we are at our weakest, not to necessarily provide us supernatural physical strength, but to provide us with exactly what we need.

In my weak moments, I try to remember that all of God’s power is made perfect just for me and provides me with the exact amount of strength I need.

Dear God, Thank you for your perfect strength and grace in my time of need.
