5 Great Walks to Benefit Pets

Fun fall walk-a-thons fund our best friends!

Fun ways to walk with your pets!

Getting outside in the crisp fall weather and walking is good exercise. But walking to benefit pet and animal causes?

Double-good!

1. Humane Society Walk for the Animals
Washington, D.C., September 25, 2010
The Humane Society Walk for the Animals benefits Humane Society programs like spaying and neutering. If you aren’t available on that day or don’t live in the area, you can even be a virtual walker!

2. Walk for the Animals and Walktoberfest
Reading, Pennsylvania, September 25, 2010
Walk for the Animals and Walktoberfest raises funds for homeless, abused and injured animals. The event includes a best tailwagger contest, live music and Spike’s Doggy Bar and Buffet.

3.Paws for a Cause
Greenville, South Carolina, October 2, 2010
Cancer can affect everyone, even our furry friends. Paws for a Cause  raises money for the fight against cancer. In addition to the walk, check out the owner-pet look-alike contest, dog tricks, and raffles.

4. Walk and Run for the Animals
Long Beach, California, October 10, 2010
The focus of the Walk and Run for the Animals is on pet and people life safety. The event is sponsored by Friends of Long Beach Animals to help fund low-cost spay/neuter, medical attention for special needs of shelter animals, disaster relief for animals, and humane education. Participate in the walk, and then check out the canine demonstrations, costume contests, and blessings for the animals.

5. Walk for Farm Animals
Nation-wide in September and October
Walk for Farm Animals, sponsored by Farm Sanctuary, raises fund for the rescue, education and advocacy of animals raised on factory farms. This year’s spokesperson is Biggest Loser’s Bob Harper. Check out the complete schedule to see when a Walk for Farm Animals is held near you.

Whether you support one of these walks, or hit the pavement in your hometown, it’s a fun and healthy way to join other animal-lovers and help save lives.
