Would winter never end? The cold brown fields, gray skies and lack of sun were really getting me down. God, I could use some spring. I prayed as I walked near our farm one afternoon.
A splash of green caught my eye. What was that in the middle of the brown field? I walked toward it and saw a perfect green crop circle. When I was a child we called them fairy rings, places where fairies had played ring-around-the-rosy. I no longer believed in fairies, but God’s green circle sure brightened my spirits. I imagined him doodling green circles lazily in the field, one after the other. But what was that up ahead?
“Oops, God,” I said with a laugh. “Looks like you made a mistake on that one. It’s nowhere near a perfect circle.”
Oh, really? The answer seemed to form in my head. Look again.
I went closer. It was perfect! Not a circle, but a heart drawn there in the grass. Like a love note right from God. My heavenly green valentine.
