Dreaming Big, Digitally

The president and C.E.O. of Guideposts shares how we’re embracing a digital future with a new fervor.

“Think big, dream big, pray big,” said our founder Norman Vincent Peale, and that’s just the message I’d pick to describe Guideposts at this moment.

Especially that phrase “think big.” We’re thinking big and I invite you to think big with us.

First of all, that’s one of the reasons you come to Guideposts, looking for help when your thinking gets too narrow, not hope-filled enough, not looking forward to tomorrow, not aware of all the potential you have.

We urge you to dream big and pray big and we’ll pray with you. The possibilities for the future are unlimited and we believe in them.

We envision a community where people can talk, share and find inspiration no matter where they live. There are millions of you. We plan to reach millions more. Everyone can come to Guideposts for the comfort and support we have to offer them, the same hope and inspiration we’ve been giving you.

We know that Guideposts is a force for good, something the world is hungry for. We deliver that goodness through our books, our magazines, our outreach programs and our digital presence.

But there’s also much more room for growth. We’re dreaming big, particularly when we consider that huge digital world.

Recently I read a phrase from another CEO that clicked with me. She described her company as developing “a digital soul.” That’s what I’m seeing for Guideposts.

I have a wonderful 30-something daughter-in-law. She’s a busy lawyer, has three kids, is active in her church, and much of her life is lived on her phone or her tablet. Sure, she reads books and magazines, but in the office, in the kitchen, in the living room, she’s also on her computer.

Our digital soul needs to reach for hers and intersect with it. Once you’re online, there is virtually no limit to the people you can reach. The potential is amazing.

This organization has never had the opportunities it has today. The digital world has enabled us to connect with more people than we ever have before. But I go back to Dr. Peale. Think small and you’re going to be small. Think big, on the other hand…

Whether you’re a longtime reader or someone who has found us online, whether you’re a prayer volunteer, a donor, a book buyer, a Facebook friend—or all of the above—think big with us. Dream big. Pray big. Our future, your future, is exciting.
