Don’t Gossip, Talk to God

Christian speaker, best-selling author and actress Priscilla Shirer shares an inspiring lesson she learned on the set of her new film, War Room

Elizabeth Jordan (Priscilla Shirer) is a poised and polished real estate agent with a family falling apart until she meets a client named Miss Clara.

As women, we have a reputation for being able to talk. And talk. And talk. And, sadly, we’re not always caught talking about the right stuff to the right people.  In the Kendrick brothers’ new movie, War Room, my character, Elizabeth Jordan, learns that she needs to turn her talking (i.e., complaining) into strategic prayer. Instead of talking to her girlfriends about what’s wrong with her husband or complaining to herself about the things that make her miserable, she decides to take her concerns to God first. After all, He’s the only one who can really do anything about them anyway. In the process of reorienting her conversation, she discovers that her attitude changes – even when her circumstances haven’t.

How long has it been since you went directly to the Father with your concerns and complaints about your spouse, your kids, your friends – before (or instead of) going to someone else? When the last time you determined to reorient your attitude to a posture of gratitude instead of solely zeroing in on the few difficult things you are tempted to concentrate on; choosing to praise instead of pout? That’s the kind of talking I want to be known for: talking to Jesus. Thanking Him first and then asking for His intervention and help.

War Room hits theaters August 28th.
