My husband, Steve, was away in Texas for work when he came down with food poisoning. Dizzy, dehydrated, and unable to keep anything down, he’d missed the day of work and was dangerously close to being unable to complete the job before flying to Florida for two more jobs. He finally got a prescription that we hoped would provide some relief but then he threw up the first pill. The situation seemed desperate.
After the kids got home from school, I felt powerfully that the three of us needed to pray together for their dad. We sat down, and I began to talk to Jesus about Steve’s need for healing and time he didn’t have. Jesus doesn’t always say yes to our requests, but He does promise to give us what we need.
Sometimes those difficult answers grow our faith in tough ways. I wasn’t sure what He had in mind to teach Paxton and Calianne, but I was sure His answer would impact their faith.
Shortly after saying amen, I texted Steve. Almost immediately a reply text pinged: “In the past fifteen minutes I’ve been feeling much better! Getting ready to head out now.” I gasped. Jesus’s answers sometimes take our breath away. He showed up when we needed Him. Steve needed a speedy recovery. The kids needed to see Jesus respond to their prayers. And I needed Him to look after my family. We’ll recall that day often as Jesus continues to grow our faith. He’s working similarly in your life, too.
