Best advice you’ve gotten Treat everybody the same. From a career standpoint, be really nice to the gofer who’s filling the coffee maker because someday he’ll own the company.

Go-to place to pray Outside with my shoes off and my feet on the grass.

Real-life heroes The helpers. Anybody who’s rolling up their sleeves and helping, that’s my hero.

Favorite Bible verse Philippians 4:8: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is lovely and admirable…think about such things.” We all have a choice about how we use our mental energy. It does create good physical, mental and spiritual health when we make the choice to think on good things. And Hebrews 10:23: “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” We can let our minds go down rabbit holes. Every thought creates a brain neuron track. We have our hands on our own wheel about what brain tracks we create. It’s so interesting how many things in the Bible are actually just good instructions for a good life.

Early riser or night owl? On the road touring, I’m a night owl because you have to be. It needs to feel like the middle of the day from a stamina standpoint. But for a lot of years, the alarm went off at 5:45 every morning because we had kids at home. I feel like a slacker now when I sleep until 7.

A detail about you that people would find surprising I’m a licensed archery instructor. I wanted to teach the kids at a camp we had at our farm. I love that you can see a child’s feelings about their capability change with some instruction and effort. I teach about a strong stance, how you hold the bow. As the week goes on, we tighten the resistance and I’ll tell them, “You are stronger than you think.” We should all hear those words spoken to us. Somebody should say to you, frequently, “You’re stronger than you think you are.”

What you do for your spiritual well-being I just like the feeling of riding bikes, whether I’m in great shape or not. I grew up on a dead-end street, and we all had our Schwinn banana-seat bikes. To me, it feels like being a kid again.
