Back to Branson

The Guideposts editor-in-chief tells us about his upcoming trip to Branson, Missouri.

The first time I visited Branson, Missouri, was back in the ’90s to do a story for GUIDEPOSTS with Glen Campbell, who had a theater there at the time. It was great seeing him perform all those Jimmy Webb classics like “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman” and “Rhinestone Cowboy” plus gospel tunes.

The next day, his one day off, I interviewed him at his condo nestled along a fairway at one of the nicer golf courses in town. Glen was a great interview and was generous with his time but every once in a while as I was scribbling notes I’d catch him glancing wistfully out onto the rolling fairways. Afterwards, while Glen was pulling his clubs out of a closet, his wife whispered, “Golf is therapy for him.”

It turned out to be a very popular article but I always felt a lttle bad about keeping Glen from his golf game. I also didn’t think I’d be returning to Branson anytime soon, though I really liked the place with its theaters, major entertainment stars and wholesome family atmosphere…kinda like Vegas without the gambling and the….well, whatever.

Wouldn’t you know it. I finally get to go back to Branson next month, December 5 and 6, to do my own show at Silver Dollar City. I’ll be telling favorite Christmas stories from GUIDEPOSTS and meeting GUIDEPOSTS readers.

It should be a blast and I’d love to see you there and chat a bit after the show. Also, for all you knitters, there will be special, fun-filled Knit for Kids sweater workshops. So bring your yarn and put it to good use after you hear some of my yarns. For more info go to guideposts.com/storyevent

See you in Branson!
