Well, you haven’t changed my mind about my favorite angel song ever (it’s still Steelheart’s “I’ll Never Let You Go”), but you did remind me of a close second in my book: “Angel Eyes” by the Jeff Healey Band (thanks, Teresa, I looked it up!).
The top two AOE Facebook favorites, with more than half a dozen votes each, were “Angels Among Us” by Alabama, and “In the Arms of an Angel” by Sarah McLachlan.
There were shoutouts for “Calling All Angels” by the rock band Train, and for covers of that song by Lenny Kravitz and k.d. lang.
Some of the Christmas hymns were nominated, of course, as were standards like “All Night, All Day” (which someone called “an old camp song”) and Bobby Helms’s Classic Country “Special Angel.” (By the way, congratulations to newlywed Shari Julson Seidl, who danced to “Special Angel” with her dad at her wedding just a couple weeks ago! Awww…any tears, Shari?)
I was introduced to a couple songs I hadn’t heard before, like “Wild Angels” by Martina McBride and a sad but beautiful “Angel” by Amanda Perez (I agree, Chrys, it’s awesome).
I also realized that Aerosmith can’t stop singing about angels: “Angel,” “Angel’s Eyes,” “Fallen Angels.” Who knew?
And Rodney Atkins might win for most clever song title: “If You’re Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows).” But that’s country for ya.
P.S. Thank you, Lisa Crews, for the most original nomination: “Anchors Aweigh.” It most certainly is angelic.
