As a favor to the head of horticulture at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, I had the pleasure to photograph an orchid for an upcoming poster.
The curators there have done so much to help me establish the hummingbird trail there, it was the least I could do.
It was probably a very comical sight, observing me photographing the orchids. The flowers were on a table inside the conservatory, and I had to pull the table around to find the best light.
I did not want the brightest light because it would wash out the details on the petals. At times, I had the flower in the perfect spot, then the clouds moved overhead blocking the sun coming through the glass panes on the ceiling.
While editing the photo, I found mealybugs on the orchid and a host of other distracting objects. I started taking out the distractions but after awhile, I decided to stop.
To the viewer, it may look like a wonderful photograph, but I view my photographs with a more critical eye.
A different photograph was chosen for the poster. Even though this photograph did not make the cut, it is one of my favorites.
Just like the orchid, we too are wonderfully made. Orchids are beautiful, but we are made in His image!
