Forget the Resolutions

But how about setting some goals for your spiritual life in the New Year?

Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

I don’t know about you, but to me, making New Year's resolutions is something that’s just destined for failure. Yeah, like most of us I’ve made those resolutions that I’m going to lose weight, exercise and be more organized. Ha.

No, those things didn’t happen. Now that I think about it–since I always break my resolutions–maybe I should make a resolution to gain weight.

  • I’d like to spend more time in His Word, to read the same chapters and verses I’ve read in the past, but to have Him open my eyes to fresh insights, to things that I’ve never noticed before.
  • I want to sing His praises more often, to really listen to the words of the old hymns and to those new songs that give Him the glory He deserves.
  • I want to grumble less and thank Him more.
  • I want to worry less and trust Him more.
  • I want Him to fill me up so that I can pour out into the lives of others who need to hear about His mercy and His love.
  • I want to spend more time talking with Him, intimate conversations with the God who rules the universe.
  • I’d like to have more quiet time with Him, moments when I shut out the world so that I can hear His still, small voice.

Yes, 2015 is almost here. A fresh new year with 365 days that we can use for Him. What spiritual goals would you like to set?

"Be still, and know that I am God…" (Psalm 46:10)
