‘Amazing Grace’ for Healing and Peace

“Amazing Grace” is a great song when you’re looking for healing and peace and goodness. Even better, sing it with someone else bcause that’s like praying with someone else, and that power of “two or more gathered” is strong.

Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

When I say I can’t really get through some things without prayer, I’m afraid people might think that I just mutter a few words, “Jesus, Lord” or “God, get me going,” dust myself off, and I’m instantly okay.

It ain’t like that. At least not for me. Prayer and faith are a matter of keeping at it, and as you keep at it, you feel yourself sustained so that you can keep at it some more so that you can keep at it.

That’s the work of it, and that’s the joy of it. And none of it would happen for me without song. Singing is prayer and prayer is singing. Look at all those psalms in the Bible. They were all written to be sung. Sing your prayers and feel the healing work of God in you as you sing.

Earlier this week I sat with my colleague Danielle Lyle, a wonderful Guideposts editor and woman of faith. Her mom was having surgery that day, and she had sent around an email asking us for our prayers.

I’d asked her if she would sing “Amazing Grace” with me as part of my project, #60SongsIn60Days. Singing a song a day and posting it on social media, uplifting for myself and for others.

But before we sang, we said a prayer for her mom. It sure felt easier to pray for Danielle’s mom with Danielle sitting right next to me next to a church close to the office. “Amen,” she said. “Amen,” I said.

We prayed for her mom’s healing.

Then I took out my camera, and we sang “Amazing Grace.” Because it’s a great song. Because when you’re looking for healing and peace and goodness, you know you’re calling on God’s amazing grace. Because when you sing with someone else it’s like praying with someone else, and that power of “two or more gathered” is strong.

So if you’re in a place where you need to keep at it to be able to keep at it, get together with a friend, pray with a friend, and sing a song. “Amazing Grace” is one of those that everybody knows. Here we are. Sing along with us.

And pray with us that Danielle’s mom will be doing just fine.
