Guideposts blogger Julia Attaway reflects on the “living water” of God for those who are tired and exhausted.

When tired and stressed, remember the "living water" of faith.

“I’m tired,” my son John complained, “And I have a bad headache.”

“Have you had enough water to drink today?” I inquired. It’s my usual response, for I know (and my kids forget) that a lot of headaches and much of what feels like exhaustion comes from poor hydration. We don’t always feel thirsty; what we feel are the side effects of not having had enough fluids.

As he went to get a glass of water, and then, surprised at how good that felt, drank another, I turned my attention back to reading my Psalms for the day. Next up was Psalm 63:

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; 
I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, 
in a dry and parched land where there is no water.

Hah! Delighted, I laughed out loud. Isn’t that just exactly how life is? Although every cell in our being craves the “living water” (John 4:10-11), often we feel rundown because we’ve allowed ourselves to become dehydrated. Drink up!
