Finding Wonders Everywhere

God’s wonders are everywhere. Even in a new neighborhood.

Now that I’ve moved from Manhattan to a new neighborhood in Brooklyn, there’s a lot to get used to. It’s quieter, for one thing. I no longer live in a high-rise. And I actually have a backyard. But it takes longer to get everywhere, and some weekends I never leave the neighborhood!

Then there’s the recycling. I’ve noticed that Brooklyn people take it very, very seriously. Shortly after we moved, my sisters and I received a notice on our front door from an anonymous neighbor calling us out for using the wrong type of plastic bags for recyclable goods.

Lesson learned! We are now recycling pros. In fact, we’ll probably be leaving notices on our neighbors’ doors soon, too.

But not everything’s different in Brooklyn. In my old life, I lived right by the Guideposts office, so I used to walk to work every day. I was always stumbling upon bits of wonder on the way there

Well, the other day, I was walking to the subway on my new morning commute when I saw a chalk message right in front of the train entrance: “HAVE A HAPPY DAY!”

I couldn’t help but snap a photo of it. Yes, I’ve moved to a new neighborhood. And sometimes it feels like a completely different country. But some things never change. There’s still wonder to be found, little messages from God all around.
