Deployment–one word that carries an entire dictionary of worry, stress and fear for those who have a loved one in the military. We could examine the reasons we feel so many negative emotions, but that’s not really helpful. Instead, let’s look at five ways to let go of deployment worry.

1)  Focus on the fact that God has a plan, and He is trustworthy.
Take some time and look back at all God has brought you through so far. Rehearse the way He’s proven faithful in your life and in the lives of those you love.

2)  Dig deep into the Bible, and see that God is consistent.
When we spend time reading the Bible we see that God hasn’t changed. He’s the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. We can take strength from knowing Him on a deeper level.

3)  Acknowledge the training and preparation for the one about to be deployed.
Our military didn’t just round up a bunch of men and women and ship them to parts unknown. No, they’ve invested time and energy getting our troops ready for the job they’re about to do.

4)  Connect with those who can give you support.
Deployments are a challenging time. No one is denying that. But they’re also a time when we need to let go of our pride and accept help when it’s offered. We do not, and should not, have to face this time alone.

5)  Share your fears with your soldier.
Trust me, your loved one already knows you’re struggling. By coming together to face the fears you both have, you’ll be stronger. You’ll be able to talk through difficulties and put in place contingency plans. Because a lot of fears come from the unknown, being prepared helps us face the future with courage.

Deployments are difficult and challenging. But we can reduce the fear and worry with a change in focus. Most of all we need to remember that we’re never alone, and God is always by our side.
