I’m excited about the all-star Elvis tribute airing on NBC this Sunday, February 17, and I for one will be glued to my TV.
That’s the only way I’ve ever seen the King, never in person, only on a screen. I grew up watching the Million Dollar Movie series on TV after school, and Elvis seemed to be featured weekly. Viva Las Vegas, Blue Hawaii, Jailhouse Rock, Clambake–I’ve watched his films again and again. And of course, King Creole, which took place right in the French Quarter, not far from my childhood home in New Orleans.
Later I was wowed on a visit to Graceland in Memphis, and my very first online purchase was a pink leather motorcycle jacket with a heart that says, “Love Me Tender” (I still wear it). Here’s a roundup of Elvis stories, including some from Angels on Earth, for all my fellow fans. Don’t miss the one by an actual Elvis impersonator!
Don’t forget to tune into the two-hour, star-studded special Elvis All-Star Tribute on NBC Sunday, Feb. 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can also check out “The Best of the ’68 Comeback Special,” the companion album to the concert. The album—released by RCA/Legacy Recordings—features remastered recordings that inspired the special, plus three original studio recordings.
