Sing a New Song
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.—Psalm 96:1 (NIV)
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.—PSALM 73:26 NIV
As we grow older, we see there are limits to our physical bodies. Our minds aren’t as sharp as they were. An injury weakens a body part. Loss breaks our hearts. This life is hard.
Fortunately, we have more than this life to sustain us. God provides more than just what we need physically. He strengthens our hearts and walks with us, even during the difficult times.
Psalm 73 was written by a Levite, who was supported by the offerings worshippers brought to the temple. He is saying that the Lord is more than any portion someone could bring in. He is the sustainer and preserver of all who trust in Him. He is far more than any earthly provision, and there is no limit to His ability to provide for us physically and emotionally. He never gets tired. He never runs out of resources.
When we go through difficult times, we may have trouble trusting God for a solution we can’t see. But His Word promises He will sustain us. We can tie the anchors of our hearts to this hope during the blowing storms of life.
Lord God, we thank You that You are not limited by earthly resources or physical barriers. You love us with a limitless love, even when we cannot see it. Help us to see Your love today to encourage our hearts and give us hope. Amen.
