September 15th marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. Celebrate all month long by recognizing a few of the extraordinary figures of Hispanic descent who have helped shape the world.
Enacted into law in 1988, this month celebrates the culture, history, and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The dates (September 15th – October 15th) are significant because the Independence Days of various Hispanic countries—Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua—fall within those days.
