Hi, I’m Colleen Hughes, editor-in-chief of Angels on Earth. Here’s a true story about an everyday angel from Teresa Peavy of Versailles, Kentucky. Angels come to us every day– as a neighbor, an unexpected rescuer, a kind stranger, or a loyal pet. Listen now to a story of just such an everyday angel.
Teresa had a black cat named Friday. Friday adopted Teresa’s daughter Marian soon after she was born. The cat slept on the foot of Teresa’s bed so he could watch Marian in her bassinet. If she cried, he came to get Teresa. As a new mother, she appreciated all the help she could get.
One day, Teresa put Marian in her stroller. She parked it behind her by the kitchen door while she did the dishes. Suddenly, Marian started wailing. What’s the matter, she cried, turning around. But her hands were deep in soapy water. She couldn’t get to her daughter.
Then, out of nowhere, Friday came running. He jumped on the stroller. He gently patted Marian on her little head. Then, he turned to Teresa, meowing piteously. It was as if he was saying, come on, Mom. Hurry, the baby’s crying! With Friday’s help, Teresa knew she’d get the hang of motherhood. That cat was a guardian angel if ever there was one.
