Hi. It’s Rick Hamlin, “10 Prayers You Can’t Live Without.”

This is the third prayer. And this is really about praying for others or, as my dad would say, I’ll hold a good thought. When you’re a praying person, and my dad certainly was, people are always going to come up to you and say, can you pray for my brother? Can you pray for my cousin? Can you pray for a friend of mine at work? They’re suffering cancer, financial problems, job loss. And that’s your chance to hold a good thought.

My dad would respond to them, I’ll hold a good thought for you. It’s so crucial to prayer to pray for others. Because when you pray for others, you get out of yourself. You hold a good thought for someone else, and God’s thoughts are with you.

I know that, in my prayer life, if I’m struggling with something, if I’m praying for somebody else, I’m always in a better place. I also believe that when you’re praying for someone else, it’s just fine to let them know, even if they’re not a believing person.

Send them an email, call them up, tell them, I’m holding a good thought for you. Because when you’re going through those tough times and you can’t do it all by yourself, it’s such a relief to know someone else is thinking of you and praying for you, sometimes when you can’t pray for yourself. I’ll hold a good thought for you.
