How to Do Good When Others Do Wrong to Us

Scripture and insight on how to forgive others and move forward with faith.

Reverend Pablo Diaz
Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Psalm 37:1 says, “Trust the Lord and do good.” That is a challenge often, especially when people we love and care do wrong to us or hurt us with their words and create situations that really do not bring us good, but bring us harm.

I know a friend of mine who was a business guy. He’s a carpenter, owns his own business, and several years ago, he purchased materials. And a guy who he knew closely stole the construction material from him. Still today, when he thinks about him, he gets hurt. He gets angry– upset. How can someone he knew that close do him that harm?

It is a challenge, but I encourage you to consider what God has to say to us through his word, to trust God. Why trust God? Because God, he sees all that we do and all that others do unto us. And he’ll be the judge, the one who will do the final judgment on all of us.

Be patient. Don’t let evil get the best out of you. Don’t let revenge take hold of your heart. Don’t let anger dominate you.

Yes, you can feel angry, upset, and hurt. Those are valid emotions, and you need to express them. But don’t let them control you. Let the goodness of God, the grace of God, the love of God, fill your heart. And live by those rules and by those principles, and let God take care of business.

It doesn’t mean that you have to now enjoy a relationship with those who hurt you. But it means that you will not go down to that level and that you are aware that at the end of the day, you live with yourself and that God sees all that you do and, most important, in your heart.

So do good. Be challenged to love when hate comes at you, to do justice when injustice is brought against you, and to trust God with his goodness and his love.
