[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, I’m Elisabeth Rohm, and I’m here with “Guideposts” today. We want to acknowledge and draw some attention to heart disease. Both my mother and my mother’s sister– my aunt, who was very close to me– both died in their 60s from heart disease.

One of the things I have really tried to focus on is to put my sadness and grief into change and into helping others to take their health seriously. Heart disease in women is a leading cause of death, and it’s very, very hard to determine. It could be back pain. It could be nausea. It’s just an elusive disease. And unless it’s targeted your family, you may not know that you’re suffering from future devastation or crisis.

So I just wanted to share with you this is my mom, and this is my aunt. And my mother and my aunt we’re both very spiritual, very strong women. I think my mother’s motto was to teach me that it’s my responsibility to speak up and to care about others. And I guess ultimately women really have a strength with one another. They’re great communicators, and they have to come together and educate each other to be their best selves and to empower each other.

And we see that really with it a number of diseases that we’ve come together and supported and created change, and raised funds, and raised awareness, and made a higher consciousness over a very difficult issue. So being that I had these two incredible spiritual matriarchs, I feel dedicated in my loss to help others and to make sure that we all have as much information as possible.
