Hi. I’m Colleen Hughes, editor-in-chief of Angels on Earth, with a true story of an everyday angel from Barbara Coffey in Whitefield, Oklahoma. Angels come to us every day– as a neighbor, an unexpected rescuer, a kind stranger, or a loyal pet. Listen now to a story of just such an everyday angel.
Barbara ran a garden center where she accepted plant starts or seeds in lieu of cash. So many people had brought in plants to trade, though. She couldn’t get them in the ground fast enough, much less get around to weeding them.
God, she said one morning, if you want to bless me right now, send me an angel to help me weed. Then, she laughed. What am I expecting, she said to herself, an angel with a hoe? That day, a brand new customer came in. Barbara helped her pick out a few flowers and herbs, but then the customer said, that’s enough. I’m on a tight budget. Not here, Barbara replied. Then, she explained how she did business. I don’t have anything to exchange, the customer said, but I can help you weed. You’re a godsend! And by the way, I’m Barbara. I’m Angel, she replied.
