Hi. I’m Colleen Hughes, editor in chief of Angels on Earth. Here’s a true story from an everyday angel in Sacramento, California. Angels come to us every day, as a neighbor, an unexpected rescuer, a kind stranger, or a loyal pet. Listen now to a story of just such an everyday angel.
One evening, a church women’s group was talking about random acts of kindness. Each member resolved to perform an anonymous good deed during the week. Donna was the newest member. She usually sat apart from the group. She made flowers out of paper while the other women talked.
Many of them ignored her. They wondered why she even came to meetings. On this day though, Donna’s paper flowers inspired another group member’s secret good deed. She made arrangements to hang Donna’s flowers on the doors of all the single mothers in the neighborhood.
She arrived before Donna at the next meeting. Everyone was abuzz. They thought Donna had given the single mothers the beautiful bouquets. She must have worked for hours. The secret good deed doer or felt like shouting, hey, that was me. But then Donna walked in. For the first time, the women greeted her with enthusiasm. Donna lit up. She’s now one of the most loyal and selfless members of the group.
