Pray the Psalms: Psalm 47

Guideposts Executive Editor Rick Hamlin shares how to pray Psalm 47.

Rick Hamlin
Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi, it’s Rick Hamlin. Psalm 47– (SINGING) 0 clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with a voice of triumph. Clapping, clapping– it’s a way of praying. It’s so easy for us to think that prayer is only with words like the Psalms, like the Lord’s Prayer, that it’s something we do with our eyes closed. Of course, that’s a way of praying.

But here, clapping is a way of praying. It’s a reminder that praying can involve our whole bodies. I just think when you clap for somebody, you’re praising them. When we clap as we sing, we’re praising God. We’re praying using our whole bodies.

(SINGING) O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with a voice of triumph. So clap. And when you do it, think it can be a prayer, too. There’s prayer.
