I was grocery shopping at the Trader Joe’s near Union Square in New York City. The line to check out in this place can get so long it will wrap throughout the store. It’s usually easier to get in line and just shop as you go. I had one last item on my list: eggs. I like to buy the half carton because when I buy a dozen, they go bad before I use them all—if I can even get the half carton. Trader Joe’s is usually out by the time I get there, or the only half cartons left will have cracked eggs.

I had just reached the egg section but was too far away from the shelf with the half cartons to see if there were any. I just had to be patient and wait for the line to move. I saw a gentleman in front of me open a carton of a dozen to make sure none of them were cracked. I saw that one of them was, on the side where he couldn’t see it. He closed the carton to add it to his cart. “Excuse me,” I said. “But I saw one of those eggs has a crack in it.” He opened the carton and saw I was right. “Thank you!” he said. He found another carton and continued on his way.

The line finally moved and I got to the shelf with the half cartons. And wouldn’t you know it, there was one half carton left! Every egg inside was perfect. A little reminder from the angels that a good deed can go a long way.
