Hi. I’m Colleen Hughes, editor in chief of “Angels on Earth,” with a true story of an everyday angel from Marilyn Summer, Jefferson City, Missouri. Angels come to us every day as a neighbor, an unexpected rescuer, a kind stranger, or a loyal pet. Listen now to a story of just such an everyday angel.
Marilyn found a delicate flower shaped earring while she was cleaning out her jewelry box. She’d searched high and low for its mate, but couldn’t find it. That earring wasn’t the only one with something missing. Lately, life with her husband Otto had become so predictable. The days of romance and excitement seemed gone forever.
Marilyn reached out to toss the old earring into the trash. Just then, Otto came inside. Is this yours, he asked. Her missing earring rested in his outstretched palm. She couldn’t believe it.
Otto had unearthed it from an entire season’s worth of snow. And it still sparkled. She looked up at her husband, who was out of breath from rushing to show her his find. He was so obviously pleased that he made her smile. Staring into his big brown eyes, she realized that earring wasn’t the only thing that still had the old sparkle.
