Have you ever played a part in another person’s miracle or blessing?

That’s exactly what happened to today’s guest blogger Patricia Small (you might remember her incredible story from the most recent issue of Mysterious Ways magazine!). She was sitting on her porch one day, reading her Bible and enjoying a glass of juice, when God used her to bring about comfort to a frightened little girl.

Here’s Patricia’s sweet story…

I was sitting in my usual spot on the porch when I saw the moving truck across the street. My neighbor Brad and his young family were moving to an army base in Kansas where he’d recently been stationed. Brad appeared by the truck and waved to me.

I walked over to congratulate him on the move. I hugged him and his wife, and wished blessing on their new life in Kansas. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Brad’s little stepdaughter, Britney, approaching me with outstretched arms. She wanted a hug too. Her eyes were downturned. “She’s scared about the move,” her mother whispered to me. I bent down and hugged Britney, telling her that I was sure she’d like her new home and new friends in Kansas.

I waved goodbye. As I walked back to my house, though, I couldn’t shake this still, small voice inside. A voice that by faith I believe to be the Lord’s. “Give Britney a bear,” the voice urged. I immediately thought of the shelf in my den where I kept a few stuffed toys and collectibles. I doubted Britney would want a toy that wasn’t brand new. But the voice was insistent.

I went to my den and picked out a teddy bear from the shelf, then looked at the other animals around it and started gathering them up in my arms. Maybe Britney would prefer a tiger, a kitty or Donald Duck? I could let her choose. “No,” the voice said. “Give her the bear.”

I walked back across the street with just the bear in hand. I rang the doorbell. Britney was the first to answer. I held up the bear.

“He wants to know if he can ride to Kansas with you,” I said. “What do you say?”

Britney’s smile couldn’t have been any wider. She grabbed the bear and held it close.

“You really nailed that one on the head!” Brad said when he saw my gift. “Her favorite teddy bear accidently got packed in the moving truck and we couldn’t get to it. She’s been upset about it all morning.”

Now I was the one smiling! I waved good-bye for the second time, wowed by God’s love for a frightened girl and so grateful to have played some part in it all.
