A Little Window Wonder

The holidays are over, a cold winter looms. But then, a sparkle of something new at the window.

Yesterday felt like the first day back to school after a long break. I woke up at 6:30 a.m. to the sound of my alarm and fought with myself not to press the snooze button.

The holidays were over, I reminded myself. Time to get up and back to work. No more sugar cookies. No more Secret Santas. No more big, sparkly Christmas trees–their bare branches now haunt the sidewalks of New York City. A sign of the bleak months ahead.

The view from Diana's window on a cold, January morning. As I got ready, I couldn’t help but wonder…what was there to look forward to now? Certainly not the bland diet I just started or the mountain of work waiting for me at the office.

Even the weather report seemed to confirm my glumness–20’s and 30’s for the rest week. Bah, humbug!

Before I left my apartment, I knelt by my bed and prayed for a good day, doubtful that it would be. When I got up, though, I noticed something glowing from outside my bedroom window.

The sunlight was hitting a building across from my apartment. And the shape it created was something that made me grin just like it was Christmas morning.

Yes, God seemed to be telling me, the holidays are over. But I’m with you all year round!

And that’s a happy thought, indeed. I do have something to look forward to–His surprises, His miracles, His wondrous plan that unfolds every day, even on the gloomiest of January mornings.

What about you? What are you looking forward to this New Year?
