Three Stories of Inexplicable Coincidences Ripped from the Headlines

A shoplifter saves a life, a Craiglist post reunites a family, and a traffic jam leads to a gravity-defying rescue. All thanks to the power of God’s love.

Our new Mysterious Ways magazine has kept me busy lately (find out more on our Facebook page), but I didn’t want to miss sharing some stunning miracles of the past few weeks with you. One feature in our new mag is “Wonderful World,” a round-up of miraculous news stories from around the globe. Here are three such stories that caught my attention recently:

How a Shoplifter Saved a Life
Paul Ford of Copthorpe, Surrey, England worked for the Duty Free shop at London’s Gatwick Airport. One day, he noticed a man pocket a pair of sunglasses and leave the store. Paul quickly called security, and followed the man as he walked towards the departure gate area.

The man tried to run. Paul grabbed him, and the two wrestled to the ground. Snap! As Paul hit the hard surface of the terminal floor, searing pain shot up and down his right arm. The police arrested the thief and immediately called for an ambulance.

Paul was taken to the hospital for x-rays. There, doctors found he’d broken his right arm. And something else too. A tumor. Upon closer examination, they found that he had cancerous tumors in his arm and kidney.

“The incident was a blessing in disguise,” Paul told Britain’s Daily Mail. “I had no symptoms at all. The doctors said by the time I noticed anything was wrong with me my kidney would have burst in my body.”

Paul had the tumors removed and his latest test results have come back all clear.

Wanted: Long-Lost Brother
Lori McInturff from Levelland, Texas always knew she was adopted. But for nearly fifty years, her search for her biological parents came up empty. In December last year, she finally uncovered her original birth certificate. Unfortunately, she discovered that both of the Beaumonts had passed away.

But she also discovered something else–records that showed her biological parents had another child, born two years after her. A boy named Matt.

The online records for Matt Beaumont were sketchy, incomplete. He didn’t have any Facebook profile she could find, or address listed. She found one reference to a Matt Beaumont living in British Columbia, Canada. No city listed.

Last Friday, she was on her computer when an idea popped into her head. A silly idea. Put a posting on the British Columbia section of Craigslist, the popular online want-ad site. She wasn’t sure which town to post her message in, so she chose at random. The city of Victoria.

Within two hours, she received an email. From Matt Beaumont. “You found me!” the email read.

It was “a God-given miracle,” Lori told ABC News.

Matt and Lori were able to see each other for the first time using the video chat feature Skype. Matt even told KCBD News that he plans to move to Texas to be closer to his long-lost sister.

Thank God for Highway Traffic
Navy officer James Winters from Lubbock, Texas, joined the military after 9/11 and served in Japan, Iraq and Afghanistan… but his most heroic act happened while transporting a piece of military equipment to a base in California.

James and other officers were stuck in heavy traffic—a hallmark of the California highway system. James got out to see what was behind the standstill.

He saw something horrifying. A badly mangled car, half-hanging off the edge of a bridge. Trapped inside were a woman, her 10-year-old daughter and a tiny baby. Firefighters were working desperately to cut them out of the wreck… without sending it plunging over the edge.

James asked what he could do. “Nothing,” the firefighters said. They were waiting for a crane that would hold up the car, but it would be nearly an hour before it could arrive.

“I can help,” James told them.

Within minutes, the mother and her children were safe and sound. Thanks to the equipment James was helping to transport—a large, heavy military forklift, perfect for securing the car during the rescue.
