What Are You Anticipating?

What are you anticipating–a hopeful prognosis of a recent health test, the arrival of a baby, a wayward child returning home, your child’s graduation? We are all hopeful for something. The Lord is the source of hope–may we depend on Him.

My first male ruby-throated hummingbird showed up at my house this week!

On March 28, when a birding group spotted a hummingbird at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, I rushed over. But after an hour of waiting where they saw him, I came away empty-handed.

I’ve waited a long time for the ruby-throated hummingbirds to make their way back to Athens. I’m sure they have enjoyed their winter vacation in the tropics. Wish I could have joined them!

Anticipating their return has made me feel like a child at Christmas. I am passionate about the little fellows and even started a hummingbird trail for the State Botanical Garden of Georgia last year.

I photographed the hummingbird shown here at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia, last summer when it felt like a million degrees outside. I went inside the gift shop for a short while so I could cool off, then headed back to photograph some more.

The hummingbirds flew around a million miles per hour. I had a hard time keeping up with them as I took a video on my cellphone. They zipped and dodged each other as they chased others out of their territory.

On another day, I heard them sing their sweet melody, but they were playing hide-n-seek. Getting a good photograph of a hummingbird is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. So, that’s why I decided to post the photo taken last year.

What are you anticipating–a good result from a recent medical test? The arrival of a healthy baby? The return of a wayward child? Or a child’s graduation? We are all hopeful for something. The Lord is the source of hope–may we depend on Him.

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13, NLT)
