When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.  —Psalm 94:19 (NIV)

I woke up from a dream, my heart beating fast. It took me a few seconds to realize I wasn’t in Brooklyn anymore. I was back in Kansas, at my parents’ house.

The week before, my husband, Zach, and I moved back home after eight years. Most of our friends expected us to stay in New York. So when we announced we were coming home, many of them had questions. It was confusing to explain why we were giving up our life there, but the answer was clear between God and me. I know He put in my heart that longing to return home.

In my dream, I had run into friends from high school at a coffee shop. “What are you doing here?” said one who was behind the counter. It was hard for me to maintain eye contact with her. She handed me a cup of coffee, and I sat at a table. More friends sat around me at other tables.

They whispered to one another and looked at me. Finally one got up and came over. “Why did you give up your dream and move back home?” I woke up before I answered her.

I got dressed and met my dad in the kitchen. “I was thinking about something this morning,” he said, as I poured a cup of coffee. “I want you to know you don’t have to explain to anyone why you moved back home. I’m happy you’re here.” It was a comforting message I know was sent directly by Him.

Father, I’m grateful for Your showing me Your heart when I need You most.
