You gave your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna. Nehemiah 9:20 (NIV)
“The day is half gone, and I’ve only begun!” That and other negative statements had recently crept into my mornings. This day a string of unplanned but necessary actions stole away the writing time I had mentally “assigned” myself. The day was indeed half gone.
Maybe it’s the Bible study my husband and I are doing together each morning at home on “Believing God” that convicted me a few minutes after I had verbalized my displeasure. At any rate, Jesus reminded me that there’s more than one way to view a situation.
I knew better. Repeatedly I had seen God work in that mysterious way of His, multiplying my time like oil in the widow’s jar, and providing “manna” for a chapter in less time than I could blink an eye. But sometimes I forget that Jesus is our Jehovah-jireh, the provider of every need, every day. I forget that He is the Maker of time itself.
I backed up mentally and began the day again: “Wow! This morning I woke up after a good night’s sleep. I enjoyed Bible study with my husband, entered Jesus’s prayerful throne room, fixed a delicious breakfast, cleaned the kitchen, washed some clothes, pampered my face to look nice for our date tonight, sent some texts and e-mails to make others feel special… and it’s only eleven o’clock. So much done!” Same morning. Different outlook.
Later I scooped up the manna Jesus readily provided–and completed my desired daily quota in record time. I just love the way Jesus works.
Faith step: Are you surprised at how Jesus works in your life sometimes? What “manna” has He provided for you lately?
