“Fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” —Genesis 1:28 (NIV)
For almost three months, I’ve prayed for Rock Hudson, a rescue dog on the website where we found our dog Soda. A senior Chihuahua with cloudy eyes and a snaggletooth, Rock Hudson is a hard case. Finding him a home will take time.
I visit the rescue’s webpage a few times a day even though we’re not looking for a dog. I read the descriptions of the animals recently rescued from a Georgia shelter, big and small, old and young, some easy to place, others with special needs. A few have known histories, owners who moved or went on to heaven. Some, like Soda, were found wandering the streets.
My heart breaks for each and every one, so I adopt them in prayer. I ask God to send His love and comfort, to help them find just the right family. I guess it started with Soda. I couldn’t get over how much I love him, how effortlessly he filled a void I didn’t know existed.

A cat lover for most of my life, I never wanted or thought about owning a dog until my son Henry insisted we get one. Soda surprised me by being an answer to prayer I hadn’t thought to pray. Today is Rock Hudson’s lucky day. “Home at Last” reads the headline.
Dear Lord, thank You for answered prayers and humans who do Your work here on earth. Please send Your comfort to all the animals in need and guide us humans to open our hearts and homes—and let in love.
