Sitting on a stool among the deep rows of books in the library, a woman was sound asleep. She sagged against the shelf, lines of exhaustion and worry drawn in her face. Suddenly, a thought surfaced abruptly: Pray for her.
Having no idea of her needs, I simply envisioned her bathed in the light of Christ. I imagined it surrounding her on all sides, giving her new energy, life, joy, hope, insight—whatever she needed.
Around the corner, I saw a man studying a page in a book. Pray for him. I lifted him into the light of Christ too. Next were a young mother, the librarian, a man at the card catalog….
Not only was I interceding for those around me, I was communing with God at the same time.
It was one of the most God-conscious afternoons I’d ever spent, and it occurred to me that one of the best ways to keep my mind anchored upon God was by aiming prayers of light at those around me.
