You know how, when you were a small child, you were taught the holy Scriptures; and it is these that make you wise to accept God’s salvation….II Timothy 3:15 (TLB)
According to Aunt Annie, when I was about four, we were looking at the night sky when I said, “I see a halo around the moon, plus all the little stars of Jesus!” Of course, I don’t remember saying that. In fact, I don’t remember attending Sunday school or church at that age, or having Bible stories read to me, or even saying bedtime prayers.
But the fact that I don’t remember doesn’t alter the evidence. Someone—most likely several people—had already introduced me to Jesus and taught me to be grateful for the beauty of His astounding creation.
My children and grandchildren may not remember attending church, hearing Bible stories or saying prayers when they were young. They may not remember Vacation Bible School or singing “I Have the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy Down in My Heart.” But I know without a doubt that nothing anyone does to teach any child about Jesus is ever lost. We have His promise: “And if, as my representatives, you give even a cup of cold water to a little child, you will surely be rewarded” (Matthew 10:42,TLB).
“A cup of cold water”—Christ the Living Water—is the most precious gift a child can ever receive.
Thank You, Lord, for everyone who teaches little children about You.
