READ: The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.—Psalm 28:7
REFLECT: We’d prayed for direction before deciding to move, and everything had seemed so right. But now, when it was time to pack and say goodbye to the loved and the familiar for a strange, friendless place, it all seemed wrong.
As I stood at the kitchen window scanning the backyard, Obie, our flop-eared dog, came running, carrying a bone bleached white from the sun.
That awful bone, I thought as I stepped to the refrigerator to get the meaty ham bone I’d kept for him. Wait till he sees this!
I called him to me and held out my succulent treat. But he drew back, loyally guarding his old white bone. He didn’t even look to see what I had. He didn’t trust me enough to trade the familiar for the unknown.
I left the bone on the grass for Obie to accept when he was ready.
