Commit your way to the Lord! Trust him! He will act and will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like high noon. Psalm 37:5–6 (The Daily Life Bible)

I spent most of my growing up years in Santa Cruz, a beach town on the coast of Northern California. A distinct love of the ocean is in my blood, but I love the sun even more.

I love the feeling of its rays permeating my skin and the warmth that it gives off on a hot day. I love its brightness and how when it is out, everything just seems better. I love when it lingers late into a summer’s evening and you can sit outside sipping lemonade and watching the kids play past their bedtime.

Nothing is better than a sunny day. And apparently, when we are trusting Jesus and committing our path to Him, He makes our lives feel like a sunny day to those who are around us.

Usually, I think about how following Jesus affects me and how I live my life. It is amazing to know that when we offer our lives over to Him, when we ask Him to shape our thoughts and direct our paths, that others reap the benefits too. He makes us shine.

Our character and the things we care about reflect His glory to those around us like a bright, warm, lovely summer day. And that is beautiful.

Faith step: Spend some time in the sun. As it warms you, remind Jesus again that you are committing your life to Him and that you would like Him to make you shine.
