Bulldog Faith

You have to get a lockjaw of faith on whatever it is you’re trusting God to do in your life.

And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith. (Matthew 13:58, NIV)

Have you ever heard the theory that people end up owning the dog breed that they most resemble in the looks department? Well, I’d have to say that is true when it comes to me.

I am the proud “mama” of a miniature long-haired dachshund named Mollie Mae. She has very short legs and a very distinctive nose. Yeah, I definitely share those same physical characteristics. (You’re checking out your dog right now, aren’t you?)

But in the spiritual realm, we all need to resemble English Bulldogs. Bible teacher Kate McVeigh once shared that Christians need to have bulldog faith. She said, “A bulldog only knows one thing. That bone is his, and he’s taking it.” And, that bulldog won’t let loose of that bone–no matter what.

The English Bulldog’s jaw muscles are as strong as any athlete’s muscles, and when it latches onto something, it really latches on. In fact, PedigreeDatabase.com states that the bite force of an English Bulldog can exceed 305 pounds of pressure.

Well, guess what? That’s how we have to be when it comes to our faith.

In Mark 11:23-24, it says: “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

In other words, you have to believe you have received your deliverance from drugs. You have to believe you have received your healing. You have to believe you’ve received a restored marriage. You have to believe that you’ve received your dream job.

And then you can’t be moved if it doesn’t happen overnight. You have to get a lockjaw of faith on whatever it is you’re trusting God to do in your life, and you can’t turn loose until the desired result comes. So, go ahead. Growl in the face of adversity and develop that bulldog faith.

Pray this with me now: “Father, I want to have the kind of bulldog faith that it takes to believe for my miracle breakthrough without giving up or letting go. Help me, Lord, to hang on and stand on your Word. I love you, and I trust you. In the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.”
