Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. (Psalms 100:3)
I recently read a devotion that ended with the words, “We were made for Him.” It made me think about how easy it would be to take my existence for granted; if I were to do that my prayers could be misdirected. To whom would I offer thanks for such a wonderful life? Knowing from the Scripture that I had nothing to do with my own creation gives me a sense of gratitude.
We are told from Psalm 100:3 that we are made by God and that our relationship to him is like a sheep to a shepherd. Sheep are dependent on the shepherd. The shepherd protects, guides and fends off enemies that would try to destroy the sheep. The shepherd is never off duty. Sheep can go to sleep without worrying about tomorrow.
The shepherd is deeply connected to the sheep. Our connections with friends and family are great, but how much greater it is that I am connected to the one who is responsible for my creation, the one who is called the Good Shepherd. I am made for him. There is a resemblance between us. My prayer point is a challenge to stay connected to the one you were made for.
God bless you!
