Invitation to the Lord

Lord, I invite you into this day. Bring your peace to calm us. Bring your tenderness and kindness and grace…

An invitation addressed to Stories of Faith blogger Shawnelle Eliasen and family

“What are we going to do this weekend?” Gabriel asks.

“Graduation parties. A wedding. And a going-away party, too,” I say.

Gabe looks at me and smiles. Lots of friends. Lots of food. Lots of fun.

It’s the season for invitations. And as Gabe and I stand in the kitchen, I decide I’d better glance through the cards to make sure I’ve gotten the dates right. I reach for the mail that’s been stuffed behind the cookie jar and shuffle through the stack. While I stand there, I have a sweet thought: It feels good, very good, to be invited.

Being included makes one feel special. Wanted. Welcomed. No matter what the occasion, we feel loved when we’re personally invited in.

I wonder if God feels this way–if he’s happy to be personally requested to be a part of my day. We know that he’s omnipresent, here always. Everywhere. And I know that as a believer in Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells within me. But still, surely it would be a blessing to ask him, to invite the Lord, into the daily moments of my life.

Oh, how he loves us!

I’ll bet he’d smile to be invited in.

Lord, I invite you into this day. Bring your blessing into the busyness. Bring your peace to calm us. Bring your righteousness to situations that will be smudged with sin. Bring your joy to hearts ready to receive it. Bring your help in time of need. Bring your tenderness and kindness and grace.

Bring your glory to this day!

“There’s a lot going on this weekend,” Gabe says.

I nod and make mental note of where we’re going to be and when. It feels good to be asked into the special moments in the lives of others.

And it feels even better to invite the Lord into mine.
