Know that God Walks Beside You

Remember: God knows who you are and will equip you to accomplish his purposes on Earth.

Prayer blogger Peola Hicks

Have you ever been asked to do something that you felt ill equipped for? Maybe fear, lack of confidence or low self-esteem makes you feel inadequate. Notice that I used the word “feel.” Feelings can change from day to day. There are many examples in the scriptures where God called men and women to join him in doing good and they felt like he had called the wrong person. Sometimes it’s hard to believe the Lord is beside us and working through us.

In John 8:29 there is a passage meant to encourage us in this: “And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” These are the words of Jesus, who in his humanity made it a point to tell us that even he needed a divine presence to complete his task on earth, just as God is with us in our tasks.

As a child I was afraid to go to bed with the lights off. My mother came into the room and said that she would be with me until I fell asleep. After several nights of her re-assurance I gained enough confidence to go to sleep without her beside me. I knew that she was still near and her presence meant that I was not alone. If I needed her, I only had to call. I believe this is the relationship I have with God, too. He is so close that I only need to whisper and he hears me. If I get into a situation that I can’t handle, he is near.

We may think that God has called us in error for a task. God knows who we are. He understands that some of us are married, overcommitted, career-oriented. He knows our doubts and fears. God is fully aware of our particular circumstances when he gives us an assignment. I believe that God wants us to know that we are fulfilling the mission he has given us.

My prayer point is to never lose your faith; always know that God walks beside us, just like he did with Jesus more than 2,000 years ago. Always believe that God knows who you are and will equip you to accomplish his purposes on Earth. Pray and ask God to help you realize that you can do great things, because he is with you.

God bless you!
