New Year’s Prayer

Pray that God shows you what new things are in store for you. The answer might surprise you.

Prayer blogger Peola Hicks

Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” (Revelation 21:5)

All over the world at midnight on New Year’s Eve, people started wishing each other a happy new year. I want to make it a great year, not only for myself but for others.

We did something new this Christmas break that I would like to continue. My husband and I decided we really didn’t need to spend money on gifts for each other. Instead, we thought we’d rather spend our time and money investing in others. Our involvement with a local community ministry that feeds the homeless and buys gifts for children in transitional housing is very rewarding. However, it is not enough to do something on the frontlines only once a year.

If I want to have a happy new year, I need to start with some new habits. My goal for this year is to live with greater intentionality and compassion. Jesus said when we do for the least and the left out, it is as if we are doing for Him.

It is nice to give money, but nothing takes the place of seeing people smile when they are served and treated with dignity. This is not a new idea, but it creates a new sense of what makes a happy new year. I thank God that he makes all things new. He gives us new thoughts that lead to new actions.

What will be happy about the new year for you?

Prayer Point: Pray that God shows you what new things are in store for you. The answer might surprise you. If you don’t get an answer right away, keep praying; don’t give up–stay with the process.
