Is God on Your To-Do List?

Each day, if I  concentrate on what God says is important, He’ll take care of everything.

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)

I’ve found I often go through my days on autopilot. I’m not seeking anything, just trying to make it through the next thing on my to-do list.

And I’m afraid that, more often than I’d like to admit, God’s kingdom doesn’t even make the list.

I try to do what’s right, but making a conscious decision to seek His kingdom, much less His righteousness, isn’t always first in my mind. This was especially true during my son’s deployment. At times, it was like the thinking part of my brain went to war with him–I felt fragmented and incomplete.

I read the verse above one day, during my quiet time, and its truth hit me squarely in the face. Here was the answer to the crazy insanity that was my life. I realized that if I concentrated on what God said was important, He’d take care of everything else.

What a relief, I hadn’t been able to sort things out apart from Him, so what did I have to lose? On that day, I began to make a conscious decision, every day, to seek Him. Things that had never worked out, began to take their ordered place in my life. It sounds so simple, and it is. Simple, but not easy—it’s an ongoing effort. But it’s more than worth the result!
