As a teacher, the end of an awesome school year inspires me!

Watching the coverage of the floods and tornadoes, I’m inspired by the people who now need to start over. Inspired by their strength, courage and compassion for each other. I’m also inspired by those of us who are not affected yet are working together to send supplies, and offer prayers and support.

Knowing that my mama, who had dementia, still remembers me (most of the time) and wants to see me lose weight. I really want to lose weight before she dies—they have called in hospice already, so she does not have much time. So far I have lost over 8 pounds. I will lose this weight!

My son, Michael. He just returned home after his freshman year at Tulane University, followed by a mission trip to Ft. Defiance, Arizona. They worked alongside others who are helping to develop sustainable agriculture for the Navajo people there. He is so passionate about the work that is being done that he’s been offered an internship for next summer!

It may sound a little strange, but I’m inspired by my 2 ½-year-old grandson, Charlie. He finds joy in nearly everything—I need to do that also!

I’m inspired by my grandmother, whom we just lost in January at age 92. Thank God for her! She introduced me to Guideposts as a child, and it stays with me to this day, 40 years later.

My son Nate, who will be celebrating his 16th Birthday at Disneyland this week! He was born with Weaver Syndrome, which means he has multiple delays and is nonverbal. We also deal with behavior issues, which can be challenging for all of us at times. Yet Nate loves to smile and dance, sometimes to a beat that only he seems to hear, beep-bopping his way through the wonderful journey of life!

My friend Amy Griggs Busby has been a huge inspiration to me and many others touched by her kindness, support and love. She passed away this week after a long battle with melanoma. She reached out in the midst of her own illness to comfort others and she is now on her way to a new adventure.
