I awoke one Thursday feeling feverish and congested. “I must cancel my lesson today,” I told my piano teacher, Suzanne, on the phone. “I need to go to the doctor.”
I threw myself a pity party when I got home. Diagnosis: bad cold and strep. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and rest. Good thing that was all I wanted to do anyway. I fell asleep in my recliner.
That evening, I saw that I had a voice mail from Suzanne. Had she called to reschedule my lesson? I listened, but instead of words, I heard music: Blessed Assurance, which is one of my favorite hymns.
Over the next few days, as I recovered, I listened to that musical message again and again. It gave me permission to rest and heal. Suzanne knew just what I needed, and she showed it without saying a word.
