The umbrellas at the outlet were so cute—and such a great price—I couldn’t resist buying a few. Later that week, a friend told me she was going through a rough patch. I got out my stationery to write a note, then remembered the umbrellas. One had a darling cat and dog print, just right for an animal lover.
On a small piece of card stock, I wrote, “Let’s weather this together. I’m here for you.” I tied it to the umbrella and mailed them out the next morning. She loved it!
Umbrellas became my go-to. For birthdays, I’d write, “May blessings rain on you today.” To celebrate a promotion or other good news: “May it never rain on your parade.” Or for someone in need of prayers: “Jesus is your shelter from the storm.” Over 20 years, I’ve probably given out more than 100 umbrellas.
I recently ran into a friend who received one when she was going through a divorce. “Eight years later, I still love to use it,” she said. “It reminds me of the sunshine you bring my life.”
