Wow. I just finished reading the final proofs of this issue and there are some tremendous stories I can’t wait for you to read. I just don’t know where to tell you to start!
Joel and Victoria Osteen are great friends of Guideposts and Joel has some uplifting advice on the values it takes to maintain strong family bonds in this fast-paced world. He’s got a couple of funny anecdotes to illustrate his points. Plus, our photo shoot is terrific.
Then there’s teacher Lou Zywicki Prudhomme’s moving and miraculous story of a student whose life she unknowingly touched and who mysteriously returns to… well, I won’t give it away. Just get your Kleenex ready.
Our Strength in Tough Times story is from a couple whose home and entire hometown were swept away after Hurricane Irene. You’ll be amazed by their resilience and unyielding trust in God. But maybe the story that speaks to me most is Larry & His Beautiful Bark, about a service dog in training who can’t seem to keep his bark to himself, not a desirable trait for the work he is meant to do.
My dog Millie is a bit of a barker. Like Larry, she is generally quiet and well-behaved and doesn’t bark at the usual things—the doorbell, strangers, thunderstorms, other dogs. Yet sometimes, inexplicably, she just barks. And gentle, demure Millie has a huge bark that can send folks scattering when she lets loose on the street.
At night, sometimes, she’ll march down our block barking exuberantly and wagging her tail. What’s she saying? I may have to wait until heaven to get those answers. But in the meantime I’ll take a clue from Larry and accept that Millie has been given a purpose for her exuberant barking that I just don’t understand yet.
So welcome to our April issue. And please feel free to bark.
